Keep Sharks in our Seas: A Social Campaign

The campaign was about taking a social cause and creating a project to spreads awareness. I chose a campaign about the rapid decline of shark populations. Although this is a global issue, I decided to limit my audience to a small beach town, like the one I grew up in. The intended audience are the young members of the community and their families. The result: humans play a big role in the decline of shark populations, but they can also play a huge role in “keeping sharks in our seas”. The following series of posters, environmental designs, and clothing are intended to teach the audience just how close sharks are from disappearing from our oceans and hopefully teach the community that we need sharks in our ecosystems.

Logotype + Look & Feel

The logotype was landed on after multiple iterations. The final decision is a wave wrapping itself around a shark. The drawing style is light and airy. The colors are subtle and earthy with inspiration from the ocean blues and greens. Logo can be seen below!

Environmental Series

These 3-D designs are meant to be seen in public space. They are intended to catch the attention of the intended audience, spark curiosity and ultimately interest in your mission. They should lead or connect the audience to the other material supporting your campaign.

Poster Series

The poster series was meant to inform the audience. My challenge was to take a complicated global issue and make it specifically applicable to a small town. How could I translate this on a poster? My approach became a series of facts around shark decline from a more general perspective to educate the audience.

Clothing Series

The clothing line was my final series. By simply adding the logo to sweatshirts, t-shirts and tank tops, I would hope that the campaign would gain further attention from locals who found the design interesting, important, or worth wearing.

Collateral Piece

The collateral piece was a printed book, created to encompass the entire concept of the project. It holds the style guide, graphic elements, goals, and each series: 3D environmentals, posters, and clothing line.
